Swedish artist – Stina Persson

Swedish artist Stina Persson is coming to the states with a solo show at Gallery Hanahou in New York this September. As a commercial illustrator, she normally has to create more altered, defined, flawless sorts of pieces for clients. So, for this show she decided to offer her original work with flaws and all. To her, that means skewed perspectives, unorthodox color combinations and visible paint drips. And I think the results are absolutely gorgeous! Here’s a little sneak peek at some of her pieces for the upcoming show.

My Scratch Map

Imagine being able to subtly show off exactly where you’ve been on your holidays. Well, with the My Scratch Map scratch-off maps, it’s easy to make anyone who pops round feel thoroughly jealous of exactly how well-travelled you are. On first glance, it’s quite a classy-looking wall map, but if you carefully scratch off the places you’ve been on holiday, it reveals some lovely colourful and geographic detail. More importantly, though, it’s perfect for letting everyone know how exotic, learned and very Palin-esque you are.

The top layer of the map is gold foil for easy scratching, and you only need to rub it with the edge of a coin, scratch-card style, to reveal the gorgeous detail underneath. This makes a super gift for anyone who’s been around a bit (geographically speaking, obviously), and a great talking point for wherever you might hang it. The only problem might be the excessive amounts of money you’ll have to spend on trotting around the globe so you can finally reveal that missing patch of Belize or Inner Mongolia that you so desperately want to see the detail of. Palin’s one would be amazing.

Luxury Jewelry Collection Inspired by Alice in Wonderland

The Brazilian brand H.Stern in partnership with Disney has released an extraordinary luxury collection of unusual ring inspired by “Alice in Wonderland” of Tim Burton. Strange roses, colorful mushrooms, bird from beautiful garden, the Cheshire Cat, Jabberwocky and other wonders of the world through the mirror served as the inspiration for designers brand. The collection consists of five rings, they are all made of gold, some items are covered with colored enamel and adorned with diamonds. All products are made under the order, and, like in the movie everything is reduced or increased to gigantic proportions, and jewelry can be ordered two sizes – “human dimension” and “extraordinary dimension” that are enormous sculptures.

Cheshire Cat: The Chesire Cat ring was reproduced in detail in a small sculpture of gold dipped in blue enamel, and is seen stretched out on a smattering of gold and diamond branches. The golden cat’s smile received a special treatment and, as in the film, glows in the dark.

Mushroom Forest: The Forest of mushrooms where Alice wanders in the film inspired the creation of this enameled gold ring in colors and textures carefully chosen to represent the natural forms. In order to reproduce the tones used in the film, dozens of colors were tested until the ideal tone for each piece was achieved. The texture of the real toadstools is seen not only on the outside of the ring but also on the inside. Some are covered with diamonds.

Living Flowers: The roses in Alice’s garden are now sculptured in Noble Gold, and thanks to the finish in enamel, gain a tone of dark purple, which contrasts with delicate buttons sprinkled with diamonds.

Jabberwocky: The intriguing dragon that terrifies Wonderland gave origin to an impressive ring with a gothic look in the style of Tim Burton. The body of the dragon is represented with black gold and diamonds on a double-band ring.

Topiary Garden: The film shows plants artistically cut out in topiary technique forming a magnificent garden. This scenario led the H.Stern designers to create a bird made of hundreds of golden leaves, soldered one by one and covered by green enamel.

PixCell-Elk#2 by Kohei Nawa

“By covering surface of an object with transparent glass beads, the existence of the object itself is replaced by “a husk of light”, and the new vision “the cell of an image” (PixCell) is shown. Most of the motifs, like stuffed animals are found through the internet. I search some auction sites and choose from the images which appear on a monitor as pixel. However, the stuffed animals which actually have been purchased and sent have real flesh feel and smell, and have a discrepancy with images on the monitor. I then transpose them to PixCell in turn.” – Kohei Nawa
